COURSE OBJECTIVES

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of this course each student will be able to perform the following:

  1. Define curriculum in a postsecondary setting.
  2. Identify and evaluate major claims on the curriculum.
  3. Identify philosophical assumptions and conceptual framworks used in postsecondary curriculum development and provide a solid foundation for a curriculum development project
  4. Articulate the process of curriculum change, planning, and development.
  5. Explain the purpose and rationale for the following educational program areas:
    1. general education
    2. workforce education
    3. transitional education
    4. honors programs
    5. multicultural education
    6. adult education
  6. Analyze and evaluate external and internal forces impacting the curriculum.
  7. Explain the curriculum development process in a postsecondary institution including the role of internal committees and external agencies.
  8. Design a course or training program by preparing a detailed course syllabus, lesson plans, and accompanying materials.
  9. Identify evaluation models and practices, including program review, for curricular improvement.
  10. Investigate the influences of mulicultural educational experiences on community college students.
