Interwork acknowledged by the Foundation for
Educational Achievement

At an awards reception on October 27, Dr. Caren Sax and Dr. Fred McFarlane accepted the award for Educational Innovation from the Foundation for Educational Achievement on behalf of all faculty, staff and students.  The following is the statement from the program:

The Educational Innovation Award is given to the Interwork Institute of San Diego State University. The Institute conducts research, training, and education to assist those in need of vocational rehabilitation or those with significant disabilities.  The Institute uses a broad variety of strategies, including distance learning technologies, to creatively expand its influence.  The Institute operates through client assistance programs, online models to build capacity within minority communities and Indian tribes, education for college faculty and administrators, and a Transition Service Integration Program designed to provide a smooth transition from school to integrated employment.

Other award recipients included:

• The Public Policy Award  to State Senator Jack Scott from Pasadena

• The Continuing Quest Award to the San Pasqual Academy and its Intergenerational Mentoring Program, SPAN

• "Extra Mile Award" to Tiffanie Simmons, General Manager of Pat & Oscars Restaurant in Mission Valley

• "Full Measure Award"  to Kari Chase, for her commitment and inspiring example

• Special Educational Achievement Award to Dr. Richard C. Atkinson, President Emeritus of the University of California.
